May Photography Challenge - Your Mom

This months Photography Challenge it's all about MOM. All the challenges this month are actually about mom. It's May, time for Mother's Day. The photography challenge: a photo of mom and me telling you why she is so wonderful. The photo I took today, while we enjoyed the day together on the water, boating. It was wonderful!

Mom, you are irreplaceable

Even though our past

You are just irreplaceable

Isn't that amazing?

The most amazing thing about you is that you have overcome our past

Everything you and I went through

It wasn't small

And yet, we overcame

We overcame because of Love

We overcame because at a very important time in my life

you let go of me

I needed you to

and you knew

I can only imagine how hard that must have been

a mom letting go of her child

Impossible and yet you knew

You knew it would save our future

And here we are

mother - daughter

Crying, laughing, cheering one another on, good talks, intimacy, doing fun stuff together

And now, now you are irreplaceable

And I, I love YOU

A day on the water

I went canoe-ing today. The weather was lovely. In Holland this means you drop everything you're doing (or need to do) because it may be the only summer day you'll have. I was slowly getting jealous of the pictures I saw coming from my friends in the States, lots of sunshine, people wearing short sleeves and such.... very painful to watch. But not today, today I was in bikini till 7.30 pm and now I am even home with a sun burn.

What I got to enjoy:

You Capture - Sweet

Sweet, that is an easy one. Lots of sweetness around me and I love it. I was doing a film shoot yesterday. I was making a mini documentary of a mom of 6 kids. They are such a FUN family. The kids are great, happy, talented, helpful and good to one another. I witnessed lots and lots of sweetness, and it is just what I needed for this week's You Capture.

This precious girl was totally in love with my interviewer. She would not let go of him. I love when kids do this, she kept hopping on, so sweet. And he was so nice to keep walking her every where he went, so sweet.

So sweet

Having fun together like this is very sweet.

This is not my favorite picture at all but isn't this sweet? After all the jumping, he just threw himself in the arms of his sister's friend for a rest and she just cuddled him right back.

It's always a challenge to capture her during her performances. For one, I am working and running around since I am her manager. Second, my lens isn't the greatest for photographing in theaters, at a distance, in poor light settings, and artists moving around.

"Binnendieze"

Last year I took a course in Photography. One of the students is a volunteer in the city of Den Bosch. He does boat tours and promised to invite us when season would open up, it would be a great opportunity for photographing is what he promised. Well, it happened last night. I was soooo tired of work but did not want to let this one go. If I would let it pass I would only be about work, I have to make the conscious choice to do stuff like this! Whenever I photograph, I am in another world, I forget stress, forget the to do's and am all around HAPPY! So most of us were there, and we were on the boat for a few hours. It was amazing, I am never that appreciative of Holland, but last night I was surprised that Holland could be like this. We were down town and yet, when on the boat we were surrounded by silence. It was a water passage way through out the city, underneath shopping malls and the town hall. All of a sudden we got to an open area, B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!

Assignment - Your living environment

I am working on my first assignment for my classes. The first one is "Your living environment." I am supposed to take pictures of my surrounding environment. This is broad because does it mean: literally where you live? Does it mean your environment in general which could be work or your favorite store? I want to be on the safe side and will take photo's in and around the house. The photo's are supposed to show who you are, that by looking at your photo's people need to be able to recognize you right away. You need to make a series of at least 4 photo's with a maximum of 8. These photo's also need to be related in some way, whether that is by taking all photo's outdoors, or taking photo's a certain way in a certain style, or stay with one topic. I choose to relate my photo's with the style of photography. All photo's need to be black and white!

I am wondering what you guys think? I still have a week to make adjustments and play around, so shoot.......

You Capture - Colors

I've been so busy but it was time to work on a challenge again. And so for You Capture I came up with more colorful Tulips.

Dear Jenna,

If we were closer to you, I am sure we would all love on you in this week of your surgery. Now we do it in a way we can and know you would love.... WITH PICTURES. Your blog and Fledging Photographer friends think of you and wish you well! We are sure your mommy takes great care of you.

MCH: "I would come over and just sit with you. Being quiet when you need quiet, telling stories when you need to get your mind of off your pain, reading you from the Word or from a girly novel to let time pass quickly and enjoyably. But all this we would do while enjoying a glass of Latte Natural Caffeine Free Coffee with a nice sweet flavor. (although some where I have read that Mormons do not drink coffee, would you drink this one? Either way, it's a nice gesture ;)"

Michelle: "We just came back from Hawaii, so I haven't had a chance to be more creative than this. While in Hawaii, we drove by a Mormon temple, and I immediately thought of you and took a photo."

Tasha: "Jenna, If Adam and I were nearby we'd come to visit (for a very short time so you could rest) and bring flowers. Since we can't bring you flowers, we took a picture of one of my favorite plants that's in my house. Yes, Adam did help me take the picture, sorta :) We hope you get to feeling better and enjoy having your Mom there.
